Riyadh: The crescent moon has been officially sighted in Saudi Arabia, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1447 Hijri on Thursday, June 26. Religious authorities confirmed the moon sighting on Wednesday evening, signifying the start of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The significant day of Ashura, which falls on the 10th of Muharram, will be observed on July 5 in Saudi Arabia. Across the UAE, Qatar, and other Gulf countries, various religious and cultural activities are being planned to commemorate the start of the new year.
