South Africa made history at Lord’s by defeating Australia in the final of the World Test Championship, securing their first-ever ICC title. Chasing a target of 282 runs, the Proteas reached the total with five wickets in hand, thanks to a match-winning 136-run knock by Aiden Markram. Captain Temba Bavuma also contributed 66 runs in a memorable chase that ended a 27-year trophy drought.
Earlier, South Africa had struggled in their first innings, getting bowled out for just 138 runs. However, their bowlers, especially Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, brought them back into the match by dismantling Australia in both innings. Despite a 74-run first-innings lead, Australia could only set a 282-run target, falling short under pressure from South Africa’s disciplined bowling.
The final at Lord’s saw several momentum shifts across five days, but it was South Africa’s resilience, particularly with the bat on the fourth day, that sealed the win. The victory not only marks their first ICC trophy but also a new chapter in their cricketing legacy.
